Poncin Harmony 42 : Rationalisation and simplicity

Construction.

The boat may seem conventional, but the concept is truly original. The Harmony 42 was presented at the Grand Pavois boat show in La Rochelle in September 2004, and is the first in a new series by the French shipyard Poncin. What makes it unique is that the manufacturers have used automated assembly methods taken from the automobile industry. This cost-saving technique is aimed at producing high-quality boats at attractive prices. The architecture and design of this range are the work of Yannis Mavrikios and Alain Mortain.

Deck.

Rationalisation is the keyword on this vessel, so the deck plan is simple. For passenger comfort, the jibsheet and mainsail travellers are located on the coachroof, leaving the catwalks and cockpit free.

Interior.

The interior is entirely designed to save room and give a sensation of space and light. The plywood partitions are entirely covered in white gel-coat. The soberly designed master cabin in the bow has an en suite toilet.  There are two double cabins in the stern beneath the cockpit. The only bathroom is located on the port side opposite the chart table on the other side of the companionway.

The 39 hp Volvo diesel engine is standard on this model. Buyers have a choice of two keels: a deep draught bulb keel or a double keel with a shorter bulb. Simple, rational, easy to manoeuvre and reasonably priced, the Harmony 42 is an instant success.
