Elan Power 42: Sporting power from Slovenia

Sporting power from Slovenia

Construction
After the successful Elan Power 35, the Slovenian manufacturer revealed its latest model at last autumn’s boat shows. The Elan Power 42 is now the flagship for Elan, the up and coming Eastern European brand that generates most of its turnover from sailing yachts but has recently made its successful entry on the motor yacht market. The brand’s secret is to provide high quality boats targeted at a certain type of clientele.

Above deck
A lot of attention has gone into the Elan Power’s aesthetic appearance, with smooth lines and a sporty V-shaped hull, which performs very well at sea. The high guard rail that runs practically around the entire boat blends perfectly with the silhouette of the Elan Power 42 and ensures safe access to the forward sun deck. The hard top also fits well with the overall outline of the boat.

Below deck
Inside, there is little to distinguish the Elan Power 42 from her younger sister, the 35. There are two parts to the cockpit: the aft part houses a large saloon that converts into a sundeck whilst the forward part, under the hard top, contains the galley and helm station.

The instrumentation at the helm is beautifully designed. The 180° windshield, combined with the hard top, gives excellent visibility for both skipper and passengers. The interior design is very refined, with light coloured woodwork and numerous portholes ensuring that there is plenty of natural light below deck. The Elan Power 42 has three cabins. The owner’s cabin is in the bow and has direct access to the shower room. There is plenty of sleeping capacity to the rear of the unit, with one twin cabin and one double cabin. In the centre, there is an indoor saloon opposite the well-equipped galley. Like its predecessor, the 42 is a functional model with luxurious layout and materials.

Engines

For this model, the Slovenian shipyard has chosen twin engines, 2 x 350 hp from Volvo. The hull is designed for speed, and the manufacturer quotes a maximum speed of 37 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots. The 1000-litre fuel tank makes the Elan Power 42 a good candidate for long cruises.
