Windy Zephyros 58 : Sleek and sophisticated

Windy-Zephyros-58Sleek, sophisticated, modern and comfortable are just a few adjectives to describe the Norwegian manufacturer Windy’s largest cruising boat. After five tough years, the Windy 58 Zephyros finally became a reality in the Swedish shipyard Storebro, under the watchful eye of the architect Hans Jorgen Johnsen.

The coachroof can be partly detached, allowing the captain to navigate with his head outside, thanks to a small hydraulic platform. There are two other seats next to the captain, allowing passengers to enjoy a much better view than from the rear bench seat.

The rear sundeck conceals a twin-berth cabin with bathroom for the crew. The first saloon, located just behind the wheelhouse, has a U-shaped bench seat and small, basic galley for barbecues. The lower deck has a comfortable saloon with a bench seat facing the galley on the starboard side. The centrally located master cabin with bathroom is protected from the sound of waves breaking on the bow, a sound which is not always pleasant. The guest cabin in the bow also has its own bathroom.

This yacht, nearly 18 metres long, is designed for both the high seas and coastal sailing. It’s sailing performance is excellent, with a cruising speed of between 25 and 27 knots at 2000 rpm, with squat at 14 knots. Peak speed is around 32 to 37 knots depending on the engine: two 715 hp Volvo engines or two 900 hp MAN engines.

Added to the fact that there is zero vibration at slower speeds, and the boat is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics such as a heading hold stabilizer (even when stationary), this is clearly a jewel of modern design and
reliability.
