09/2008 –

The iShares Cup ended in the very heart of Amsterdam on Sunday september 21st, 2008. The last of the 5 events has sacred Alinghi. With he same points as TeamOrigin, before the netherlands race, Ed Baird and his team succeeded with this week-end small wind. The circuit has started on May 30th, 2008 in Lugano (Switzerland), than stopped in Hyères (France), Cowes (UK) and Kiel (Germany) before to end in Amsterdam (Netherlands). With 79 sets ran in front of more than 150,000 spectators, the iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series 2008 is a great success. One must say that the show is impressive and fascinating because the regattas are raced a few meters from the pontoons.

What’s next

This high level race made sailors come from everywhere to compete. Olympic sailors, some from the America’s Cup, some circumnavigators, raced at sea but also on lakes or downtown canals as in Amsterdam this week-end. The program is already booked for next years. Gilles Chiorri, Manager of OC Events said : “we are close to confirm the 2009 event towns, we also try to organise events in the Middle East or in Australia, in order to facilitate the organisation of series in these regions in 2010. We hope that 2009 will be even bigger and we wish to work more closely with the related towns in order to be more interactive with the spectators.”
