NC11: The new motorboat from Jeanneau

03/2010 –

The NC11 (Nouveau Concept) is the first model in Jeanneau’s new motorboat range, launched at the Dusseldorf Boat Show. The Scandinavian design concept of this 11-metre day cruiser was originally targeted solely for the French manufacturer’s Scandinavian partners, but in the end, Jeanneau decided to widen its horizons and the project took on a distinctly Mediterranean flavour. A logical outcome when you think about it. The designers of the NC11 are after all Garroni Design of Genoa and J.F. de Premorel Concepts in Nantes.

Ocean’s eleven
As always, Jeanneau’s priority is sailability, and the NC11 is no exception. The Z-drive engines should ensure a quick lift-off and maximum speeds of up to 30 knots whilst offering excellent all-weather stability. The living area is incredibly modular, more like a yacht interior than a small motorboat. There is a fully-opening sunroof above the pilot house, a feature that Jeanneau has already offered on previous models.

The skipper is comfortable when seated or standing, and the boat can be easily manoeuvred with an intuitive, centralised control system. In addition, the side door offers easy access to mooring lines. The wide, well-protected side decks and on-board comfort are ideal for cruising (we particularly liked the spacious bathroom). Since it was originally destined for Scandinavian waters, the boat is designed to let in a maximum amount of light, so the NC11 has plenty of portholes and a 360° window on the upper deck.

Stylish, modular design
The NC11 offers plenty to excite those in search of change and innovation. The first surprise comes as soon as you step on board: the bench seat transom can slide forward for increased wind protection. The cockpit is also modular: when sailing, the co-pilot can sit starboard on the comfortable, forward-facing couch, which swivels handily to face the table and galley when dining. The saloon area’s second couch also swivels away from the table to face aft if required, and the seats against the starboard wall pull forward to form a long sofa. Lastly, the saloon table slides from left to right for easier access.
At sea, the NC11’s flexibility makes it ideal for different geographical regions, with its large forward sundeck, and aft, a Swedish-style double anchor, ideal for the fjords. In a nutshell, the NC11 is a safe bet and an excellent choice.
