Vendée Globe – Black Pepper Yachts builds a second Imoca 60 for Sam Davies

Black Pepper Yachts, the Nantes-based shipyard managed by Michel Douville de Franssu, is building a second IMOCA 60 designed by Sam Manuard in the hull moulds of L’Occitane en Provence; it will carry the colors of Initiatives-Coeur and will be skippered by the renowned sailor Sam Davies. Sam will be on the starting line of the next Route du Rhum at the helm of this latest generation boat.

This new Imoca built using the moulds of the former L’Occitane en Provence will not be a “sister ship” in the true sense of the word. Modifications have been made, particularly to the foils, to conform to the new rules.

The hull will be delivered to the Initiatives-Cœur premises in Lorient in December of this year (2021), where its technical team will take charge of the preparation as well as the installation of all the systems on the boat.

The launch, scheduled for May 2022, will allow Sam to take the start of the 2022 Route du Rhum at the helm of this new machine while awaiting the 2024 Vendée Globe.

“We are extremely proud to build this boat for Sam Davies. She is an exceptional sailor for whom we have great admiration and she defends a worthy cause by wearing the colours of Initiatives- Cœur – Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque. We have loved working with the technical team of Initiative Coeur, whose experience, together with Sam Manuard and our design office, has allowed us to make a lot of progress on this magnificent boat.

Sam will now be able to take the helm of this latest generation machine and fight to save even more children!”
